A few days ago I posted a picture on Instagram that said 'Just begin'. I received a lot of messages asking me to elaborate on the topic. Well here it is..
As we grow older, there comes a time where we seek out change. We become more aware of ourselves, our surroundings & look for new possibilities to pursue, to make life a little more meaningful. We suddenly have this urge to leave our jobs, start a new hobby, get married, have children. Chaos that we want to subject ourselves to just to seek that mirage of happiness we feel is only right around the corner.
And there is nothing wrong with that, absolutely not. But one has to begin somewhere. I get it, it is difficult to just start something out of wishful thinking, but if you are willing to get somewhere, you have to move.
I have had so many friends & acquaintances who have told me about how they wanted to start a business, write a blog, make youtube videos, get married, but most of them eventually did not end up doing any of these. Folks who wanted to start their ventures did not have the courage to leave their jobs or even devote part of their weekends to sow the seeds of business. People who wanted to write blogs & have their videos flying off the internet (though loved the end result of being popular) wondered how the world would judge them. Friends seeking out a wonderful life partner never went out looking for one, just assuming that all the good ones were taken or worst still doubted their self for not being good enough.
Bottom line, they never started anywhere or even if they did, they did not allow themselves a reasonable time to pursue what they were really looking for. So the idea of this post is to tell you that the mind will always chatter & more often than not tell you that you can't do something or that it is too hard. But don't give up on your dreams, start small, try. Just begin. Figure out on your journey whether you enjoy it or not, cut yourself some slack. Its okay, when after a year if you decide you don't want it anymore, it is fine, at least you tried.
And lastly, the world will always pressurise you no matter what you do. There will always be people who will judge you for your looks, for your lifestyle, for your life choices, no matter what. And then there will be naysayers who will tell you to just hold on to that safe path & leave dreams for nighttime. But then, it is important to do what you want to do, it is your life after all.
So just begin somewhere today, mark a starting point & walk from there. As you walk that path, you will know what your heart ultimately wants. Be the judge of your actions and the path that you choose; for the rest, just ignore :)
